Now I believe they are able to use dogs in texas legally for recovery because it's so thick down in that texas brush I would get lost hahaha let alone recover an animal, I'm not sure about other states, but I know your not aloud to use them in ohio and I was just wondering what other hunters thought about it. I know that some people may try and use this to an advantage to flush deer, but I only mean for recovery purposes only. I just know some guys that have had trouble finding big bucks in the past and we looked for days only to find it a month later down to bones. I just think if used right it would be a very helpful tool to have at the point of no other option.

As a side note- I have heard they banned hunting with dogs in England even though it is a centuries old tradition to hunt with horse and dog. PETA and the environmentalists got to them.

I know this is old... but you are aloud to track deer with a dog as long as it is on a leash/harness... in Ohio...

I used my lab a year ago, and was totally blown away at how he followed the trail... we had shot a deer and some rain hit, the blood pretty much vanished... however my dog followed it right up to him... pretty cool to watch him track like that..

Hey man thanks for the heads up on the whole using dogs fro recovery only subject. That's awesome that your lab was able to help you with your recovery like that. I guess it's just one more tool we can use to our advantage because there is nothing worse than not finding your trophy. Thanks for the heads up buddy.

This definitely could have helped with the recovery of an almost albino piebald that was taken in Ashland county (2011). The buck was gut shot and hide was bad by the time it was found a little over a day later in unseasonably warm weather!
