Fall/Winter food plots

Looking for insight as we start planning our food plots for this year. I tried the brassica/rape (turnips) last year for my fall/winter plot which grew perfectly in Aug/Sept/Oct. The deer browsed on the greens but never touched the turnips during the winter as I expected. Did they not know what it was? Nothing was dug up.
I have alfalfa next to it and they love that during spring/summer but need something for later. Was thinking of oats and/or soybeans but wanted some opinions.
Your feedback is appreciated.

I always have a small area where I have winter wheat planted. It is durable, will grow in most places without much work, and will survive the snow and harsh environments of an Ohio winter. It provides an inexpensive forage area so you can focus on beefing up other solid winter food plots with high protein.

It's not the size of the dog that matters...it's the size of the gun his owner has that counts.

You need to turn them over. A quick round with your discs to loosen the dirt and give the deer access.
