I'm sure most fly fisherman have seen these because they are in most fly fishing magazines, the kayaks that you can stand up on (Freedom Hawk Kayak).....Has anyone actually used or bought one of these and if so are they really that stable?

I've been tossing up the idea to buy one or something close to it for bow fishing. I know most people go with flat bottoms or V bottom boats, but for the most stability you end up going 14 foot of better in size......if these stand up kayaks with wings are as stable as they say, this would be the most convenient and practical for easy to load and/or store........thoughts

The Freedom Kayak is actually quite stable and works well. I know several guys who use this system to fish for walleye on the Maumee River just south of Toledo. It allows them to get into tight spaces while offering modest stability. I haven't used one personally, but they described that it feels a little like surfing in regards to the back and forth movement of the water. Also, don't forget the taller you are the higher your center of gravity is and less stable you become in rough water. The kayak does come with the stabilizer bar which helps especially if you lean into it to keep from rocking your body. I'm also sure with a little modification you could add a bow holder to the bar to fit your exact needs. As you stated, loading, unloading, and transportation would be much easier and most likely open up a whole new venue of fishing and hunting locations. I know of several hunters who often float down rivers in early bow season to get shots at deer while they are feeding and drinking in the bottoms. They don’t have this system but I’m sure it would make their lives much easier! Hope this helps.
